Overview

Terrestrials are designed to imitate non-aquatic insects. Insects such as grasshoppers, beetles, cicadas, crickets and ants fall or are blown into the water making them easy prey for fish. Terrestrial patterns tend to be most productive fished on the surface near the banks of lakes and rivers where these insects tend to hop and crawl on the vegetation. Since they don't live in the water, terrestrials may franticly try swimming back to shore so fish them as if they are dead in the water or with a twitch.
